New Orleans is an impressive place to visit and if you’ve never been, then it’s one you’ll want to add to your bucket list of places to travel. Known mainly for it’s music, culture and festivals, as well as the geography of the state, it’s a place that attracts many tourists from around the globe.

Know your budget and length of stay
New Orleans is fairly average when it comes to the cost of your vacation. Typically, you can expect to spend under $200 a day depending on your spending habits and how many people are in your party.
Knowing your budget is an important one because you want to make the most out of the music and cultural experiences that this state has to offer.
Ideally, you want to be staying around three or four days for a quick trip and a whole week if you want to make the most out of your trip. January, February and March are proven to be the best months to travel to this part of the world. I went during February for three nights and four days. We stayed at the Voco St. James Hotel.
Pick out the right hotel in the best location
When traveling to New Orleans, it’s always good to scope out the accommodation first so that you know exactly what hotel you should be looking for.
Ideally, if you’re able to stay at Hotels in French Quarter, then you’re likely to have the best time. The French Quarter is a popular spot for tourists and anyone who finds themselves in New Orleans. This is where I stayed and it's walking distance to everything, plus a safe area.
Plan your itinerary
Make sure you’ve planned your itinerary out when it comes to picking what activities you get up to during your stay. There’s so much to see and do when it comes to New Orleans, whether it’s discovering the history of the state, to checking out all the shopping areas. An itinerary is helpful to have and it can be great to add some structure to your time away.
Do create an itinerary that ticks off all the must-haves as a tourist to the state.
Explore the French Quarter
New Orleans is famous for it’s round-the-clock nightlife and vibrant music scene. The French Quarter is a notable spot and probably the most famous of places within New Orleans. There’s plenty to see and do in this part too, with lots of local establishments and restaurants to enjoy.
As mentioned, there are also plenty of places to stay in this area so it’s worth checking it out regardless.
Be sure to make room for spontaneity
Finally, make sure you loosen your itinerary somewhat for spontaneity. This is important because you want to ensure you do things that crop up without planning. These spontaneous moments are often the ones that are most exciting and memorable to have from your time away.
Planning your first trip to New Orleans is certainly exciting. Use these tips to get the most out of your trip to this state.
