What To Do During the Summer at Mammoth Lakes

Nestled in the heart of the Sierra Nevada mountains lies a hidden gem that truly comes alive in the summer months: Mammoth Lakes. Known primarily as a winter wonderland for skiers and snowboarders, Mammoth Lakes transforms into a paradise of outdoor adventures and natural beauty during the warmer seasons. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a peaceful getaway, Mammoth Lakes offers something for everyone.

My fiance and I had been to Mammoth Lakes several times, but only during the winter. We were so excited to see one of our favorite travel spots during the summertime.

Here’s your guide to making the most of your summer getaway in this stunning corner of California.

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking in Mammoth Lakes is a thrilling adventure with numerous trails catering to all skill levels, from beginners to experienced riders. It was my first time mountain biking and riding a bike with a pedal assist. I had so much fun and highly recommend doing this during your trip. It is a perfect way to see the area while getting some exercise and fresh air.

There are several bike rental shops in Mammoth Lakes where you can find bikes suited for various terrains and trails. Our bike rentals were about $60 a person for four hours.

We rode on the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park trail which is the hub for mountain biking in Mammoth Lakes, offering over 80 miles of trails. The park features a variety of trails ranging from gentle cross-country paths to challenging downhill descents. Trails are marked by difficulty level (green for easy, blue for intermediate, black for difficult) so you can choose according to your skill and comfort.

Beyond the bike park, Mammoth Lakes has a network of local trails that explore the surrounding forests and terrain. Some popular trails include the Mammoth Rock Trail and the Lakes Basin Path.
